------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. NEW HIGHLIGHT: Q&A with Dr. Sonjia Kenya: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) - Gender Inequality - Rights Based Approaches (RBAs) - HIV/AIDS - Poverty ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By approaching the perspectives liaised with sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) we have tried in this Q&A to document the importance of such framework vis-à-vis development thinking in the lights of the paradigm shifts and changing patterns in the distribution of economic growth. At the heart of this discussion, sensitive matters in regards to gender inequality, the feminization of HIV/AIDS are center piece as they should be integral components in the debates about the importance of women's rights and the consolidation of the MDGs to address the problems linked with poverty and inequities, and their repercussions on sexual and reproductive behaviors.
And to help us understand and comprehend the depth of these phenomena, five questions were addressed to Dr. Sonjia Kenya who will bring in a specific outlook as it involves the Caribbean and the diverse experiences that are laid around these issues.
Dr. Kenya is a health disparities research scholar supported by the National Institutes of Health. Since completing her graduate work at Columbia University and her NIH postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Kenya has focused on HIV risk, obesity, and immigration issues linked to preventable health problems among women of color.
