Ensuring ownership of the goals would require the knowledge and information on the goals. It will also require the participation of the poor in discussions and the formulation of policy and programmes of intervention on the MDGs. Current levels of knowledge on the MDGs is not encouraging. Development practitioners and governments should work towards creating local ownership of the MDGs. The forum will address sustainable development issues. A summary of comments will be presented by the OAS to the First Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development, to be held in Bolivia on October 5-6.
